As a private, nonprofit educational organization, The Gettysburg Foundation works in partnership with the National Parks Service to preserve, protect and honor the battlefield of Gettysburg for future generations. They also provide education on the historical significance of the Battle of Gettysburg in the context of American history. Gettysburg Foundation was formed in 2006, through the merger of The Gettysburg National Battlefield Museum Foundation and the Friends of the National Parks at Gettysburg.
Donors to The Gettysburg Foundation have a strong interest in American social and military history, the importance of freedom and the preservation of areas whose events have had a profound effect on the shaping of America.
